Wycliffe Wycliffe Bible Translators was founded in 1942 by William Townsend. A missionary to the Cakchiquel Indians of Guatemala, Townsend had caught the vision for translation when a Cakchiquel man challenged him: "If your God is so great, why doesn't He speak in my language?" Townsend resolved that every man, woman and child should be able to read God's Word in their own language. Of the 6,809 known languages in the world, nearly 2/3 do not have a translated verse of Scripture. That's over 300 million people who have never had the opportunity to hear God speak to them in their language. Believing that people are best reached through language of hearth and home and believing that the Bible brings people to life through Christ, Wycliffe seeks to fulfil the Great Commission through Bible translation. Wycliffe Bible Translators work to translate Scripture and train field personnel in literacy teaching. Over 500 translations have been completed. We are linked to the Jarrett family who have been working in Niger. Church members read their newsletters and prayer requests, respond and correspond with them.
