Baptisms

Baptisms

Baptism marks the first step on the journey of Christian faith, and parents take these steps together with their child. Christian faith is an adventure in living God’s way and baptism is promising to live that way and to help your child to understand and live that way too. We give you the opportunity to explore this more as you enquire about baptism.

Many people find that a special service of Thanksgiving for their new baby, where they are able to give thanks to God for their baby, receive a blessing and have supporting friends (similar to godparents) who pledge to support them in the upbringing of their child, is just what they want.

Some parents want to mark the occasion of their child's birth and give thanks to God for them but want to leave it to their child to choose if they want to make the serious faith choices and promises that baptism requires. This gives their child the opportunity to be baptised as an adult.

We’d love to welcome you and meet you on a Sunday so you can get a better picture about the church community here.

There is no charge for a baptism service. To be baptised at St Peter’s you need to live in the parish or attend the church regularly.

Adult Baptisms

If you were not baptised as an infant but are interested in being baptised as an Adult we often run courses of preparation that help you to explore your faith and help you to decide if you want to take the step of faith and promises that baptism is about.

Baptism is a symbol of a new and fresh start, a new life, and a new way of life and it is so exciting to hear about people’s journey and why they have chosen to put their faith and trust in Jesus Christ.

Kirsten would be delighted to talk to you about this if you are interested in exploring faith for yourself.
